Maya Angelou was
an African-American novelist, civil rights activist, poet, educator, dramatist,
actress, producer, filmmaker and historian. She wrote a number of poems based on
injustice and the bias against African-American in the United States. In most poems Angelou
used her approach to feminism to express the dilemma of racial segregation,
discrimination, male dominancy and class oppression. Maya Angelou courageously rose
her voice through her pieces of work to speak in favour of those who were not heard
such as black people and women.
