Entry #16 - NOMINALIZATION: FOR or AGAINST?
Nominalization is a type of word formation in which a verb or an adjective (or another part of speech) is used as (or transformed into) a noun. The verb form is nominalized.
Examples:
- More complex --> Complexity
- Will take longer --> Extension
- Handing in --> Submission
- Getting sick --> Illness
- To play --> Recreation
- Failed --> Failured
- He sang his heart out --> The heartfelt singing
- She ran very fast --> Her fast running
- Frustrate --> Frustration
- Organize --> Organization
- Argue --> Argument
- Govern --> Government
- Refuse --> Refusal
- Propose --> Proposal
- Implacable --> Implacability
- Proliferate --> Proliferation
-Crony --> Cronyism
- Proliferate --> Proliferation
- Nominalize --> Nominalization
- Formed --> Formation
- Indicate --> Indication
